For our manufactured kennels we use quality timber distributed here in Northern Ireland. As with all natural timber products, they will be subject to change depending on the weather conditions, and insignificant cracks and splits can occur. Timber is a natural product and these are not considered to be a fault or defect. All our timber products are pressure treated with a wood preservative. This high level of protection will help prevent insect attack and fungal decay in our timber. Pressure treated lumber is no stronger than untreated lumber. The difference between the two is that pressure treated lumber will resist the elements better than untreated, and so will maintain its integrity in conditions that would cause normal wood to rot. If you choose not to stain or paint, then apply clear wood preservative annually to maintain the wood's water resistance After being outdoors for six to 12 months, treated lumber will develop cracks, called "checks," along the surface of each board. These hairline cracks are a normal part of the drying process.
